CHORALE (all female choir)

Chorale is a beginning treble ensemble designed for soprano and alto voices. This ensemble will focus on basic music literacy, building of beginning vocal skills, and performance of 2 part soprano/alto choral literature. Performances include: school concerts, assemblies, Ohio Music Educators Association Contest, graduation, and performances for community organizations.
MEN’S CHOIR

Men’s Chorus is open to all bass voices who enjoy singing. This choir performs works of many composers and styles. Emphasis is placed on singing Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Bass (TTB) two and three-part male choral literature building confidence in vocal skills. The course provides extensive experience in performance. Performances include: school concerts, assemblies, graduation and performances for community organizations.
BARONETTES
Prerequisite: CHORALE (all female choir), Students new to the district may be permitted with prior choral experience and an audition

Baronettes is an auditioned advanced Soprano/Alto chorus. In this ensemble, we will focus on intermediate musical literacy, vocal techniques and performance of 3 part (Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto) and 4 part (Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto 1, Alto 2) choral literature. This group performs works of many composers and styles. Students must be independent on their vocal part and must have been in Chorale or another equivalent vocal ensemble for 1 year. Performances include: school concerts, assemblies, Ohio Music Educators Association Contest, graduation, and many performances for the community.
BARONTONIX (BTX)

Barontonix is an advanced, mixed (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, Beat Box, etc.) a cappella chorus that will sing contemporary/pop music. Since this is an advanced group, each student must be independent in singing their musical part. Performances include: school concerts, assemblies, graduation, performances for community organizations, and other opportunities.
BAND

Symphonic/Marching Band class takes place during the school day, where students engage in rehearsals for both marching and symphonic performances. In the fall, activities include practicing music for the marching band and outdoor rehearsals. Following the conclusion of the marching band season, the focus shifts to preparing for three symphonic concerts scheduled throughout the remainder of the year. Each student is required to bring their band instrument to class daily and should be prepared to participate in evening concerts.

This is the beginning of a sequential art program that seeks to introduce the student to a wide variety of media techniques and concepts. The course will introduce and address the principles of design and basic color theory. Both two and three-dimensional works will be used to teach these concepts. Art history and current trends in art will be introduced. Art 1 is a prerequisite for all other BVHS art classes.
ART APPRECIATION I

Students focus on the early part of Art History. Stone Age to the Middle Ages. Four units comprise this course. A typical unit has a mini project, several video presentations/ discussions , notes, and a quiz. The first three units, Stones, Bones, and Thrones, are taught sequentially. This class develops vocabulary and appreciation of art and architecture from clans to civilizations. Special emphasis is on bringing the past and the present together to experience both historical and personal meaning that is so important in the study of art. The course ends with a brief overview of contemporary art styles. Those styles are the taking off point in Art Appreciation 2. The courses, however, do not need to be taken in any particular order. *Students enrolled in this course may explore controversial issues through class assignments and discussion.

This course develops vocabulary and appreciation of art and architecture from the Industrial Age to the Information Age. Special emphasis is on bringing the past and the present together to experience both historical and personal meaning that is so important in the study of art. Art Making, Art History, Aesthetics, and Art Criticism are the foundation of this course. The class is not heavy on art production but special emphasis is on creating art that is therapeutic, personally expressive, or both. *Students enrolled in this course may explore controversial issues through class assignments and discussion.
DRAWING AND PAINTING 1 & 2

This course is designed to enhance drawing and painting skills, knowledge of composition, visual perception, and expression. Students will be actively involved in drawing and painting for realism. Problems in design, still life, perspective, figure drawing, landscape, and color using a variety of mediums will be given. Artists in relationship to drawing and painting will be studied. Students interested in pursuing a career in art should take this course as early as possible in their high school schedule. *Due to the nature of this course, students may be exposed to mature content.

DRAWING AND PAINTING 3 is a second year of building a strong portfolio. This course is designed for the student who is seriously interested in a career in art. Students will begin the year researching post-secondary options and careers associated with art. The students will then build a portfolio with admissions and scholarship goals in mind. Students will explore new concepts and techniques along with building on their strengths. This class will be heavily weighted in drawing from life and creating conceptual artworks that provoke thought. The year-end project is to add to murals throughout the school to leave their mark on Buckeye Valley High School. *Due to the nature of this course, students may be exposed to mature content.
CERAMICS 1

Students will actively explore clay as a three-dimensional medium for function and expression. The basic hand building techniques will be used along with introduction to throwing on the wheel to create functional pieces. Firing procedures for electric kilns, glazing, and painting wares will be studied. Art history and contemporary works will be related to class work. All projects in this course will be clay based. Throughout the class, students will practice modern techniques used by current sculptures and potters.
CERAMICS 2

Students will actively explore clay as a three-dimensional medium for function and expression. Hand building and throwing techniques taught in Ceramics 1 will be expanded upon. Students will be pushed to create advanced, more detailed, larger ceramic pieces. Most projects in this course will be clay based, but some sculptural projects will be introduced. Throughout the class, students will practice modern techniques used by current sculptures and potters.
PHOTOGRAPHY

This class will serve as a strong foundation in photography. Practical instruction in the use of the cameras will be demonstrated and practiced. The history of the photograph will be studied along with the masters of the art of photography. This class will devote a great deal of time to learning Adobe Photoshop, Camera Raw, and Premiere software in the first semester. Adobe Premiere is software devoted to video. Students will be shooting video and creating shorts using this software. Projects will be printed and learning how to matte photographs will be introduced. Each student will be required to have a set of headphones for use in the class. We often use tutorials for learning so students can move through the course at his or her own pace. A digital camera that is a minimum of 10 megapixels is required for this class. *Due to the nature of this course, students may be exposed to mature content.
DIGITAL DESIGN PHOTOSHOP
